ABOUT MONKAMI

Monkami, situated in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, is a non-profit, registered NDIS disability service provider. Our purpose is centered on upholding the human rights of adults with disabilities, fostering greater autonomy, choice, and freedom in their lives. We offer round-the-clock support through both supported independent living services and centre-based activities, with a dedicated focus on helping individuals achieve their unique goals and aspirations.

With a well-defined vision, we aim to enhance our collaborations with participants, families, and the community, striving to make a more significant impact on the lives of those benefiting from our services.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

A proficient and dedicated Board, working in collaboration with the CEO and Executive Team, is instrumental in advancing the organisation and pioneering innovative, person-centered disability services. The Board provides leadership for Monkami in filling our objective and functions as well as setting the strategic direction of the organisation.

Monkami is inviting individuals with proven expertise in areas such as Governance and Risk, Strategic Planning & Business Development, Public Relations, Advocacy, and Communications to become valued members of our Board of Directors.

In addition to new Board Directors, we are seeking a Board Secretary to join the Board of Directors. While experience in a similar role is highly desirable, we are committed to providing training for a suitable candidate.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

To join this synergistic, collaborative and strongly committed Board of multi-skilled professionals, you have;

  • relevant professional experience contributing to Monkami's strategic development, in addition to industry-specific skills.
  • demonstrated qualities of respect, perceptiveness, and congeniality.
  • the ability to embody the characteristics of an original thinker, business leader, and strategist.
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A personal dedication to social justice, along with a firm commitment to protecting human rights and alignment with Monkami's core values of Integrity, Respect, Knowledge, Compassion and Fairness.
  • Prior involvement as a member of a non-profit Board or Committee of Management is highly desirable.
  • A willingness to invest time and energy, all Board positions are currently voluntary.

COMMITMENT

Directors are expected to participate in Board meetings and Committee meetings which are a mix of virtual and face to face meetings. The time commitment includes monthly meetings (of either Board and/or Committees), meeting preparation, and participation in other organisational activities as required.

SAFETY SCREENING

Monkami operates a stringent safety screening process for preferred candidates that will require two satisfactory current professional references, an identity check, qualification check, satisfactory national and international (where required) criminal history checks. Candidates must have the right to work in Australia.

In addition, employment will be subject to a satisfactory NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance and completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation module.
